Based on the principles of surrender and relaxation, Happy Birth Way teaches couples what to expect in labor so they can embrace their birth experience with knowledge and confidence. The class includes a real-time labor rehearsal so the expectant mother and her birth partner can practice comfort measures such as massage, conscious breathing, and effective labor positions.
Happy Birth Way students learn about their choices in prenatal care as well as their options for birth locations and an understanding of the pros and cons of a birth in a hospital, birth center and at home. Students are provided with current research and information about prenatal nutrition and exercise, how partners can support the mother during labor, how to reduce the chances of preterm labor, steps to avoid a cesarean birth, and the pros and cons of medical interventions.
Classes also prepare couples for what to expect after the baby arrives, with an introduction to breastfeeding, and a realistic overview of the first three months with a new baby.
